During the Hellenistic-Roman period, Jews in both Palestine and the Diaspora produced a number of writings in Greek. Many of these works emulated Greek models and drew on Greek themes and literary traditions. Among the most fascinating of these writings are several texts that are attributed to Orpheus, the legendary Greek singer. This volume collects the Orphic texts that are most likely to be Jewish pseudepigraphical compositions. Greek texts are provided, along with English translation, introductions, and commentary. This is the first critical edition of these Greek texts with all the Jewish Orphica collected into a single volume. Scholars working in the field of Jewish history and religion during the Hellenistic Roman period will welcome these texts and the accompanying critical apparatus and commentary.
