Cognitive linguistics is a valuable tool in biblical interpretation, yet many students and scholars remain uncertain about where to begin. This volume has been designed for them as an introduction to the foundations of cognitive linguistics and a guide to developing well-informed, methodologically sound cognitive-linguistic readings. Written for readers with little or no theoretical background in cognitive linguistics, this collection begins with an overview of the history of the development of cognitive linguistics outside biblical studies and its use by biblical scholars, and the main chapters explain key concepts in clear, approachable language. In addition, illustrations of concepts, diagrams of mental constructs, summary tables, a glossary of terms, and examples from biblical passages demonstrate how cognitive-linguistic concepts and methods can illuminate biblical texts in fresh and compelling ways. Finally, annotated bibliographies offer options for digging deeper into this rapidly growing area of biblical studies. Contributors include Michael G. Aubrey, Rachel Aubrey, Kevin Chau, Stephen M. Coleman, Beth Currier, Christopher J. Fresch, Beth Hayes, Bonnie Howe, Christian Locatell, Richard A. Rhodes, Elizabeth Robar, William A. Ross, and Nicole L. Tilford.

Beth Currier is assistant professor of Hebrew Bible at Pillar Seminary.
