This collection offers a fascinating and incisive look at the enormous diversity of approaches to and interpretations of the Gospel of John in contemporary Johannine Studies in the United States. Both literary and theological approaches to the Gospel are included. In addition, a second group of essays assesses the state of Johannine studies at the close of the twentieth century. The essays of this collection were derived from presentations given in the Johannine Literature Section of the Society of Biblical Literature (1991-1993) and the 1994 Symposium "The Gospel of John at the Close of the Twentieth Century."
