An intellectual history of “the father of Biblical Science in America,” Moses Stuart (1780–1852). Working fromhi position as Professor of Sacred Literature at Andover Seminary, Stuart was instumental in bringing the then new, largely German, grammatico-historical methods of Biblical interpretation to America. The recounting of the life and thought of this pioneer Biblical scholar, teacher, and author adds a distinguished new chapter to the SBL series on Biblical Scholarship in North America.
