In this volume, friends, colleagues, and former students of Theodore J. Lewis honor and build on his work with contributions that explore aspects of divinity, including deities, sacred time and space, and religious practices and personnel from a range of ancient Israelite and Near Eastern sources. Essays present fresh insights into ancient religions through an impressive variety of approaches, including philology, archaeology, art history, and the application of theoretical models from the study of religion. Contributors include Susan Ackerman, Marie-Lys Arnette, Adam L. Bean, Elizabeth Bloch-Smith, Isabel Cranz, Andrew R. Davis, Paul Delnero, Heath D. Dewrell, Marian H. Feldman, Susanna Garfein, Richard Jasnow, Jacob Lauinger, Rosanne Liebermann, Alice Mandell, Kathryn McConaughy Medill, Mark S. Smith, John Tracy Thames Jr., Karel van der Toorn, Jaime L. Waters, and Ziony Zevit. This is one of a few volumes on divinity in the ancient world to engage so many different cultures and literary traditions, making it essential reading for scholars and students interested in the study of ancient religions.
